[Disclaimer: people who know me will probably be shocked by what follows]
Today in my adventures off the island I discovered a wonderful place called Brooklyn. Williamsburg to be exact. Um, yes, I know I am not the first person to figure this out, and I know that I will certainly NOT be the last. And I know for a fact that people who live in Williamsburg hate Manhattanites like me who come in and then think that they have discovered something no else has. Residents feel like it is gentrifying. You’re right. It is. I know, i get it. I’d hate me too. To all of you folks, this is a respectful “nicely done” for living in such a cute place. Thanks for sharing. To all my friends, I know I will probably regret this post at some point in the future.
Moving on…. so yes, GASP! for those of you who know me, the mere fact that I am saying that I enjoyed an afternoon like Brooklyn will be shocked but in my defense I went with a purpose for Alchemy (always a good idea when going borough). The purpose was to visit Beacon’s Closet to see what they had as far as vintage pieces for the event, a place as it turned out, to be one of the coolest stores that I have been to in a while. You can basically find anything you want there (not in a Wal-Mart way but in a “literally every decade is accounted for” way). I managed to find a Kate Spade bag (a personal fashion icon) and a pair of fabulous ankle boots that I will probably wear only once or twice but for $24 bucks- totally worth it.
It was a wonderful afternoon. Best I’ve had in a while . And to top it off, I was then walking back to the L train and came upon a new coffee shop on Bedford, called El Biet where I was introduced to clover coffee (What is clover coffee?). A process, so I was told, that is like a single fresh brewed French Press. It was rather delightful. So I, along with my Ray-Ban , skinny jean, loud sneaker wearing friends, sat in, the dare I say quaint, Williamsburg and enjoyed our coffee. while across the street a man was selling 8 old books, a chicken crate and an old typewriter. that man is more or less a nod to what Brooklyn used to be. Now that both co-exist tell me how you can not LOVE New York?
