Happy Thursday.
As you have all probably realized by now, I don’t write on Mondays. (with rare exception like I won the lottery or got engaged, both of which will not be happening in the near future mostly because the only thing that I spend money on is shoes and because most guys in NYC are out to be awesome at their jobs and less about the whole dating scene, but I could be proved wrong ). However now that I have spread a bit of the word about this blog I felt the need to explain its existence. Sort of like the way you feel you need to explain your existence to your extended family.
Aunt: “So what exactly are you doing with yourself in New York?”
Me: “Well, I work for myself, starting my own company”
Aunt: “oh, so how do you spend your day?”
Me. ” Mostly creating events for women to raise money for charity. organizing the events, putting all the different pieces into place”
Aunt: [it shows on her face that she clearly doesn't think I really do anything] “That’s nice dear, do you have a boyfriend or anything?”
Me: “no, um not yet…[eyes furtively glancing around for the bar] I know that all my other cousins are married…yep..yep, just looking for that right guy…, oh hi yes, vodka tonic, please.”
But as you all are not relatives that are afraid of NYC and in fact are savvy readers I will go ahead and explain why I’m writing this blog without a drink in my hand.
So you all know, I have started a business that creates high end personalized events for women using their excess clothing. It is something that I have always wanted to do and it seemed, with my sudden lack of job, a perfect time to do it. Plus I saw a need and wanted to fill it. (read: why Alchemy Social Club exists) However as with most things that are life changing, they start quickly and then slow waaaay down once you start putting the process into motion so over the past month I have been getting things together to lay the foundation of a company and throw these events. And I thought, while I was doing this I would start a blog. A conversation. At this point in the process, a way for me to share my thoughts, rants, dilemmas, and observations about life with you all.
Eventually, as I see where the business takes me, it will also be a place for me to tell you about cool things that are happening in the company as well as when we are having events and other pertinent info along with the random musings of my life. It will be linked to our website when we get that going (note to self: call web guy). Also I will have a category for just the “need to know” info about Alchemy Social Club so if you don’t have time to be utterly amused by the thoughts that cross my mind, you can just get the info. (the category will be Cliff Notes – Alchemy Social Club) Cool?
So I hope you don’t mind me chatting with you about anything for now. and this way you can feel free to talk back to me. if nothing else it will allow me to have an example to tell my aunt of what I actually “do” with my life.
